Thinking small or Thinking Big

How is Big Thinking characterized and what are some examples for the accounting profession?

Thinking Big is critical

Most CPAs think small. They think survival.  They count their daily bread and wait for the other shoe to drop.  This serves their small self.

Small self is the shrinking self.  Hunched over, too accommodating, worried about what others think, it is a sense of defeat.

Your big self stands tall, shoulders back and confident that you kick butt.  You are focused on success as you define it.  Examples, wealth, freedom, working with only people you like, working less.

As you know, “most people aim at nothing and hit it with amazing accuracy.”

Big Thinking is characterized by

·         Visualization

·         Playing to Win

·         Being outside of your comfort zone

·         Not settling

·         Owning your situation

·         Hanging around people who want the best for you

·         Hanging around people who think different than you

·         Hanging around people who are successful and push you

·         Clear goals and staying the course

Examples of Big Thinking in our industry

·         50% Net Profit

·         Working 40 hours a week during tax season and 32 during the offseason

·         Only working with clients I like

·         Only working with Target Clients

Some food for thought.

Thinking Big is critical.  Think small, get small results. Think big — get big results!
