The Power of Collaboration…Learnings from Regroup 2025

When you step away from the day-to-day grind and surround yourself with peers who are building the kind of firm you aspire to lead, something clicks into place. The noise quietens down. The excuses fade away. What you’re left with is clarity, alignment, and the accountability you need to follow through.

That’s what happens every year at Regroup, our annual face-to-face conference.

It’s not about theory or fluffy inspiration. It’s about collaborating with accountants who are addressing the same challenges…and moving the needle every year. As one Renew member, James Scoffin, told us when we asked for his Regroup highlights, following some hard-hitting sessions with his peer group:

“The genuine feedback – the very very specific feedback and holding us accountable.”

This accountability is what makes the difference. It’s one thing to hear a keynote speaker; it’s another to have a peer across the table ask why you’re still clinging to what we refer to as Insanity Zone clients or challenge you to finally implement the minimum prices you’ve been talking about but avoiding.

The feedback from Regroup 2025 in Austin, Texas, was clear: accountants want to dig into the issues that drive real transformation. Here are the themes that came up again and again:

  • Pricing: How to set minimums and targets, how to structure subscriptions, how to say no to the wrong clients. (Our next four group calls at Renew hit this head on as we roll out our Pricing Reset program).
  • Attracting Target Clients: Moving beyond “anyone with a checkbook” and focusing on the clients where you can get leverage and avoid insanity.
  • Transition: Creating options, bench strength, understanding what’s happening in the market with PE and family money.
  • AI and Technology: Not the hype, but the how-to’s and where you can get leverage.
  • Community and Collaboration: The glue that holds it all together.

Many firm owners try to solve these challenges in isolation. They read articles, attend webinars, and buy new software (most firms have had multiple false starts searching for tech silver bullets). What we learn every year at Regroup is, transformation doesn’t happen alone.

When you’re surrounded by peers who share openly (not just their successes, but also where they have struggled and how they got through those tough times) you can shortcut years of trial and error. You can grow strategically with clarity and support.

As Vinny Pungello said:

“Renew provides a community that not only care about each other’s success but hold each other accountable.”

And it’s not just the ideas. It’s the clarity. Scott Traasdahl described it this way:

“I characterize my experience as having come in with 30 projects on my mind, which had grown to ~300 by day 2, and then leaving with 3.”

Partners in larger firms echoed the same priorities. Mark Brown (Brown & Bakondi CPA Group PC) emphasized the importance of “connections with fellow professionals, how much we need to fix things, and the ability to get help with keeping us in the right direction,” highlighting pricing, AI, and firm management as top areas of focus. Similarly, Scott Hunt (DHS Advisors) valued “the ongoing relationships that have been formed over a number of years” and stressed the need to prepare for succession and long-term strategy.

That’s the power of being in the right room with the right group of people.

The top-requested topics for Regroup 2026 are already shaping our agenda:

  • Practical applications of AI in firms
  • Deeper dives into pricing (with live case studies)
  • Advisory services and how to package, sell, and deliver them
  • Succession planning and transition readiness

As Blake Meester put it:

“The ability to bring other team members to a great curated event to jump start working ‘on’ the firm is priceless.”

That’s exactly what Regroup is designed to deliver: the space, the tools, and the collaboration to transform your firm.

If you want to build a firm that works for you, not the other way around, stop trying to do it alone. Join the conversations, lean on the accountability, benefit from the coaching, and learn from those who have already done what you want to do.

Regroup is a members-only event. If it sounds like something you should be at next year, reach out to us now to find out how you can get involved. There’s still plenty of time to make meaningful change before tax season rolls around again. If you’re serious about changing your firm for the better, you won’t regret it.
